The Show

Music begins and grows as projections on the castle appear. The top of the castle is projected to be the night sky while the bottom is projected to look like a teen’s room. Set pieces are moved onto stage, including a bed, a standup window, and some bookshelves. Jordan comes in from stage left and talks to their parents (from off-stage using pre-recorded voices). Jordan’s parents tell them to get to bed because high school starts tomorrow, and they don’t want to be late on their first day.

Jordan hollers back that they’re going to bed, but we see them pace around the room, grappling with the idea that tomorrow is the first day of a new school year and that they are not ready to get older and grow up. As they look around the room, we see plushes of different Disney characters, including a Mickey Mouse sitting on their bed, Pinocchio, Pluto, and many others as references to various characters who won’t appear in the show proper. We see as Jordan looks around, noticing the North Star glimmering in their window (done through projection mapping). Jordan approaches the window and looks out, saying the “Starlight Starbright” wish before wishing that they would never have to grow up. They then comment, saying that wishes don’t come true, and resigns to bed, leaving the window open.

The castle goes dark as we see a spotlight appear, projections of the shadow of Peter Pan flies by, soaring around the castle, followed by a trail of light representing Tinkerbell. We hear Peter Pan’s theme As, and a live actor appears on the windowsill. He comes in as Jordan wakes up, shouting, “Peter Pan!.” Peter greets Jordan and says that he and Tink heard their wish about never wanting to grow up and offers to take them to Neverland. Jordan excitedly agrees and asks how they get there. Peter then jumps into “You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!” except Jordan changes what they think of when trying to think happy thoughts. They then both leave out the window, and the castle goes dark as stagehands move the props off the stage.

The lights come back on to see Peter and Jordan “flying” (using strings and harnesses) as the music of “The Second Star to the Right” plays, as Jordan mentions that they know how to get to Neverland: The second star to the right and straight on until morning. Ready and eager to go, Peter thinks about it for a moment before telling Jordan that they have all the time in the world to get to Neverland, so why not stop by and visit some of his friends along the way. Jordan agrees, a bit confused, and Peter excitedly crows like a rooster before soaring through the night sky (which is projection-mapped behind them as they fly).

The lights go out and the iconic blue sky wallpaper is projected onto the castle to resemble one of the most iconic films of all time: Toy Story. Jordan tells Peter that their friends are getting older. They’re changing. Some of them are acting different around them and they feel so immature. Peter Pan tells them that friendship is a treasure and that a true friends will stick you with for Infinity and Beyond. Wheezy appears on the stage followed by Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and Bullseye as they sing “You’ve Got A Friend in Me”. Images of Woody and Buzz, Woody and Jessie, and Jessie and Bullseye appear on the castle as puppets of Slinky, Rex, and Ham appear. Jordan sings part of the main chorus as they exclaim that true friendship is forever and they don’t have to be afraid!

The lights go out and a single spotlight is shown on Jordan and Peter. Jordan says that they aren’t ready for all the responsibilities that come along with adulthood. Suddenly, Peter and them appear in the colorful African savanna as puppet animals like Giraffes, Elephants, and Monkeys roam the stage. An audio animatronic Simba sings “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” as Jordan runs around with the animals. They put on a crown and sings “Everybody look left. Everybody look right. Everywhere you look I’m standin’ in the spotlight” as Peter tells her that their right. The animal menagerie leaves the stage with only Jordan and Peter left. They realizes that even though they has a lot of responsibilities ahead, that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun.

The lights go out again as Jordan tells Peter that they are scared of having to let go of their favorite childhood memories. Peter tells them that he once knew a boy with the same problem and all it took was a little bit of childhood wonder and a talking bear. Suddenly, they find themselves in the Hundred Acre Wood surrounded by tall trees. Peter says that Christopher Robin felt the same thing when he had to leave his childhood place of frolic behind. But, he soon realized that he didn’t have to forget and that he would cherish those memories forever and ever. “Forever and Ever” plays as Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh (who is a puppet operated by Christopher Robin with pre-recorded sound) play in the forest together and get chased by some bees. They sail away on a makeshift raft and sail away together. Jordan says that they doesn’t have to throw away her favorite memories and that they’ll always be in her heart. The castle projects the famous scene where Christopher Robin tells Pooh that’s he’s stronger than he believes, braver than he seems, and smarter than he thinks. The lights dim and once again, Jordan tells Peter that they aren’t ready for all the choices that come along with adulthood. She says that their not ready to plan her future.

Suddenly, the castle becomes Mama Odie’s house as Mama Odie, Lous, Tiana, and Naveen come out and sing “Dig a Little Deeper” as a whole hoard of swamp animals come out and sing the gleeful song. Mama Odie takes Jordan aside and tells them about their fears. Shadows cover the castle and an eerie tune plays. Suddenly, Mama Odie tells them that it’s all going to be okay. The lights return and they all sing and dance as Jordan proclaims that their future is bright and they’ll know what to do when the time comes!

As Peter Pan and Jordan “fly” away from the bayou, the projection mapping changes from the swamplands to the outskirts of a Chinese town during the Han Dynasty. It is here where we find our next surprise guest: Mulan, as she walks along the country road. Peter Pan gets her attention and introduces Mulan to Jordan. Peter Pan explains how Jordan is afraid of letting others down when they grow up. Mulan says that she knows that feeling well and takes Jordan for a walk. As the projection mapping slowly changes to show them walking along a path, Mulan explains that she has felt that pressure to fit into a role others saw for her. However, she realized that it was most important to be true to her own heart, and that is something you find for yourself as you grow up and discover who you are. She starts singing “Reflection”, as images begin to appear in the clouds depicting scenes from the film Mulan. Images of her family and her military comrades appear, along with her discomfort in the roles they see for her. As Jordan realizes the meaning of her words, they join Mulan in the song’s chorus as images of Mulan’s successes appear in the sky. Reassured, Jordan thanks Mulan for the kind words and Mulan thanks them for opening up in kind. She walks off, but Jordan realizes that Peter Pan is not there. They call out for Peter Pan, but then Tinkerbell arrives. Jordan finds that Tinkerbell wants to take him to meet someone else.

“Flying” away, the projection mapping changes from the Chinese landscape to a dense forest. The two “fly” straight into a cabin out in these woods, the door slamming open and the projection mapping settling down in the cabin’s interior. Jordan finds themselves in the cabin, which is filled with all sorts of bric-a-brac, from books to globes to chemistry equipment. Appearing in a puff of smoke is Merlin, sporting the same classic look from The Sword in the Stone. Surprised to see Jordan a few seconds early, Merlin explains that they knew that Jordan was in some need of help. Jordan says that they are afraid of changing too much as they grow up. Merlin explains that there is no stopping change as we grow up, but that the important thing is what we do with these changes and the opportunities they bring. Noting that growing up is as natural as left or right, Merlin conjures up some smoke (via projection mapping) and starts to sing “That’s What Makes the World Go Round”. Objects fly around the cabin, complimenting the word to the song as Jordan joins in on the song. Images from other Disney movies then begin to appear in the smoke as Merlin sings about reaching for the heights, offering glimpses of others who took that first step (such as Rapunzel first leaving the tower, or Hercules battling a monster). Merlin then offers his wand to Jordan, who accepts with some hesitation. They make a globe float among the smoke, uneven at first but soon the movement is smoother. Jordan cheerfully sings the last bit of the song and returns the globe to its starting place with a flourish. Handing the wand back to Merlin, Peter Pan arrives. Jordan thanks Merlin for the lesson, who gives a thank you in return and disappears in a puff of smoke. Hearing about Jordan’s concern about change, Peter Pan decides to take them to see a group of friends to help ease his concerns for good.

“Flying” once more, the scene shifts away from Merlin’s cabin to Arendelle. Arriving on a hillside overlooking the town, Peter Pan and Jordan discover a whole group looking out on the winter scene: Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and even Sven (in their Frozen IIoutfits). Peter Pan tells them that Jordan is afraid of change, with Jordan explaining that they are most afraid of losing who they are and the people they love as they grow up and change. Anna and Elsa both feel for Jordan hearing that, as they both say they have seen plenty of change. Elsa tells them about how she had let her fears rule her life, but Anna’s love helped to save her and bring out the kind sister she always was. Even if change may seem scary as we grow up, Anna and Elsa say that some things will never change. The group comes together to sing “Some Things Never Change”, reflecting on the changes in their lives and the love that has helped stay strong. Their song and kind words embolden Jordan, who joins in with their own verse reflecting on the things in their own life. As the song comes to an end, Jordan thanks them all for their kind words. Anna, Elsa, and the whole group wish them the best, as they head back to town.

After the Frozen crew leave, Peter sits on a frozen fountain of ice, looking over at Jordan, who waves goodbye to the characters leaving the stage. As Jordan turns around, Peter asks if Jordan is ready to head off to Neverland now because it’s almost morning. Jordan thinks about it, pondering in a monologue, saying that they don’t know if they want to grow up or not. Peter laughs and takes Jordan’s hands, revealing that he brought them to meet all of his friends to teach them that growing up isn’t all that bad. Jordan airs out a final concern, saying that they don't want to let go of all of the magic, to which Peter replies that they don't have to. They never have to grow up, even without Neverland, because growing up is a choice. Peter tells Jordan that moving forward and getting older is exciting, telling them to think of everything their friends have said, before saying, "But if your decision is to come with me to Neverland, that's your choice." Jordan smiles, giving Peter a knowing look, and Peter takes their hand again, saying, "That's what I thought. Now let's get you home. You've got a big day tomorrow."

The castle goes dark again, and the Frozen scenery is pulled away as the bedroom scenery is brought back. Peter and Jordan enter through the window, and Peter sits on the window sill as Jordan returns to their room, hugging Peter before he leaves, exiting out the window as Jordan climbs into bed. The castle goes dark before the lights come back, and it’s daytime as Jordan wakes up to see all of their Disney friends in their room, including Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, all of the other characters they met along the way, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse, who all help them out of bed. Peter tells Jordan it’s time to get ready and Jordan runs off stage left. They return wearing their school outfit and tell all of the characters that they’re excited about this next step because now they know that growing up doesn’t mean forgetting the magic, but instead, embracing it as an adult.

Jordan hears their parents hollering from downstairs that it’s almost time to go and the bus will be here soon. Jordan smiles and has a big group hug with all the characters, after which they all leave the room, waving goodbye. Jordan sees Peter about to leave but stops him, giving him a giant hug and saying they’ll never forget him. Peter laughs and says of course they won’t because the magic always lives within them. He then winks and exits out the window. Jordan then smiles, saying that they’re ready, before going “downstairs” (exit stage left) as the castle goes dark again. As the props and set pieces are moved offstage, the immortal words of Walt Disney appear, projected on the castle as his voice says “Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.” The lights then return as the cast comes out for a curtain call.
