This volume presents to readers an exploration of those melodious songs that are inscribed, as though in golden script, within the hearts of Malayalis everywhere. Ganakauthukam -Part 1 resonates with the cadence of timeless compositions that transcend the boundaries of time — songs held close to the heart, interwoven with cherished memories and lived emotional experience.
Scholarly works in Malayalam devoted specifically to the study of film songs are relatively rare. In that context, I hold a firm conviction that this distinctive literary journey - undertaken in search of the depth and expanse of Malayalam lyricism - will guide readers into a realm of aesthetic delight and reflective appreciation. The approach adopted in this work centres on exploring layers of meaning embedded in the priceless and incomparable expressions of poets who continue to illuminate the collective imagination - Vayalar, P. Bhaskaran, O. N. V. Kurup, Sreekumaran Thampi, and others whose words endure in public memory.
Enriched by the musical grace of masters such as G. Devarajan and Dakshinamoorthy Swamigal, and further immortalised through the distinctive vocal artistry of K. J. Yesudas - the Gandharva of song - and the deeply expressive rendering of P. Jayachandran, evergreen compositions including Shyamasundara Pushpame, Aayiram Paadasarangal, Karimukil Kaattile, and Kalpantha Kaalatholam are examined here. Through this engagement, admirers of music are afforded a rare opportunity to encounter the literary elegance, melodic refinement, and enduring vitality that sustain their timeless appeal.

മലയാളഭാഷയെ പരിപോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായുള്ള എന്റെ ആദ്യ ഉദ്യമമായ 'ഗാനകൗതുകം ഭാഗം 1' ന് ലഭിച്ച വന് വരവേല്പും ആത്മ സമര്പ്പിതമായ പിന്തുണയും, ഈ സംഗീത സാഹിത്യ യാത്ര തുടരുന്നതിനുള്ള വലിയ പ്രചോദനമായി മാറി. ആ പിന്തുണയുടെ ശക്തിയില് അഭിമാനത്തോടെ, എല്ലാ സഹൃദയര്ക്കുമായി അതിന്റെ രണ്ടാംഭാഗം സമര്പ്പിക്കുന്നതില് എനിക്ക് അതിയായ ആനന്ദമുണ്ട്.
