Prof. V. Narayanan Namboothiri is widely recognized for his creative vision in sustainable technologies and waste-to-wealth innovations. SUSTAINABLETECH is a knowledge platform dedicated to the development, dissemination, and documentation of Sustainable Indigenous Technologies, rooted in creative vision, grassroots innovation, and social responsibility.
Led by Prof. V. Narayanan Namboothiri , an economics scholar, eco-innovation researcher, educator, and Government of India patent holder from Kerala, the initiative reflects nearly five decades of committed work in sustainable development and indigenous technology.
Over the last 49 years, extensive hands-on experiential research has resulted in the development of 28+ indigenous, low-cost, eco-friendly machines and more than 200 recycled and value-added products, transforming locally available low-cost or no-cost resources into meaningful, socially beneficial solutions. Guided by the philosophy of “Use of the Used” and Waste to Wealth, these innovations demonstrate how indigenous wisdom, when aligned with creative vision, can convert waste into value for a greener and socially responsible future.
Through Patents, Skill Development Programmes, Community Development Through Polytechnics (CDTP), Teaching & Social Contribution initiatives, Publications, Invited Talks, Media Engagement, and Collaborative Platforms, this website documents and promotes Indigenous Technologies for a Sustainable Future.
My work is driven by a deep belief that technology must coexist with nature, empower society, and remain affordable to all. Sustainability is not just a scientific principle — it is a responsibility toward future generations.

CREATIVE VISION: LOGO - INTERPRETATION
This website presents a body of creative works emerging from long-term experiential research and indigenous technological innovation, guided by a unified philosophy of sustainability, societal relevance, and environmental responsibility. The creations demonstrate how locally evolved, low-cost, and eco-friendly technologies can address challenges such as resource depletion, unemployment, environmental degradation, and ethical use of technology, aligning with the National Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the quality benchmarks of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Together, they represent scalable and socially relevant models for academic institutions, community development, and skill-based employment generation.
