All new employees at Sunny Haven, including Providers and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), must complete mandatory new hire training before beginning independent work. These trainings ensure that staff are well-equipped to provide safe, high-quality care while complying with all state, federal, and Sunny Haven policies. Below are the steps and requirements for completing new hire training.
All new hires must attend Sunny Haven's Orientation Program, which includes an introduction to company policies, procedures, and expectations.
Orientation will be conducted online and/or in person as scheduled by HR.
Topics include:

✅ Employee handbook and company policies
✅ Documentation and reporting procedures
✅ Workplace expectations and professional conduct
All employees must complete the following trainings before working independently:
1. First Aid & CPR Certification
Must be completed through an approved training provider
Certification must be renewed every two years
Proof of completion must be submitted to HR
2. Therapeutic Options Training (Crisis Prevention & Intervention)
Required for all Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)
Covers de-escalation techniques and safe intervention strategies
Certification must be renewed per company and state guidelines
3. DBHDS Mandated Trainings
Person-Centered Practices
Recognizing & Reporting Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation
Human Rights
HIPAA & Confidentiality
Medication Administration (if applicable to your role)
4. Infection Control & Universal Precautions
Covers hand hygiene, use of PPE, and preventing disease transmission
Annual refresher required
5. Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness
Procedures for fire drills, evacuations, and emergency response
Training specific to each residential home or service location
6. Individual-Specific Training
Training tailored to the specific needs of individuals you will be supporting
Includes reviewing Individual Service Plans (ISP), medical conditions, and behavioral support strategies
Some trainings are completed through Sunny Haven’s online training platform.
Employees will receive login credentials and must complete all required modules by the deadline provided.
Failure to complete required trainings on time may result in a delay in employment start date.
DSPs and direct care staff must complete on-the-job training by shadowing an experienced staff member.
Shadowing shifts will be scheduled by supervisors or house managers.
Staff must demonstrate competency in daily tasks, documentation, and resident care before working independently.
