We are so glad you are here and ready to start the onboarding process! There are a few really important key points:
✅ Onboarding has to be done in its entirety before you can fully become employed and start working with the individuals we serve. There is a lot of information about to be given to you, make sure you are giving yourself time and a good environment to learn in (little to no distractions).
✅ We are online based training! But if you need additonal help, reach out! You can read more about why we are mostly online here.
✅ Each step is required and important. We follow DBHDS, HCBS, DSS, DOL and VDOL regulations (shew!) and we have to make sure everything is done and accounted for!
✅ Onboarding is at your own pace (sort of), meaning SHRS Intranet is available to you 24/7. However, it is HIGHLY important that once you start onboarding you strive to complete it within 48-72 hours (2-3 days). The longer it takes you, the longer it will take before you can work. If you are not making progress, do not communicate with admin or just never start, Your manager will be notified, and you will be removed from the onboarding process until you are ready to complete the process quickly and efficiently. We have 20-40 new hires on any given day! So we have to keep it streamlined and only focus on those who truly want to be part of the sunshine team!

All new hires at Sunny Haven, including Providers and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), must successfully complete both State and Federal background checks before beginning employment. This thorough screening process ensures the safety and well-being of the individuals we support while maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements. The background checks include a criminal history screening, Child Protective Services (CPS) check, and verification through state and federal databases. Additionally, all prospective employees must undergo fingerprinting and be screened for any history of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Felony convictions involving violence, including murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, or malicious wounding
Sexual offenses, including rape, sexual assault, indecent liberties with a minor, or offenses requiring sex offender registration
Child abuse and neglect convictions
Elder or vulnerable adult abuse, neglect, or exploitation
Drug-related felony convictions within the past five years
Embezzlement, financial fraud, or identity theft offenses
Human trafficking or kidnapping
Felony domestic violence convictions
Arson and major property destruction offenses
Any other felony or misdemeanor that indicates a risk to the health, safety, or welfare of individuals receiving services
Ensuring that all staff meet these rigorous standards helps us uphold the highest level of care and integrity in our services. New hires must complete all state and federal background screening requirements before being scheduled for training or shifts, and failure to provide necessary documentation in a timely manner may delay or prevent employment.

This check is required to ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals we support and to comply with state and federal regulations. Important Note:
Adherence to these procedures is essential for compliance with federal regulations.
Please ensure that you bring the two forms of ID to your fingerprinting appointment.
Bring the following required documents to your fingerprinting appointment:
✅ A valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, or state-issued ID).
✅Make sure you show up to your appointment on time, if you cannot make it, you will need to go online and rescheule the appointment, HR cannot do this for you.
You will be asked to verify your identity using your photo ID.
Your fingerprints will be scanned electronically and submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for processing.
The process takes about 10–15 minutes.
Once fingerprinting is completed, you may receive a receipt or confirmation number.
Your fingerprints will be submitted to the FBI and processed within 5–10 business days (may take longer if you have a state or federal record). Results will be sent directly to Sunny Haven's Human Resources Manager.
As part of the pre-employment process, all new hires at Sunny Haven, including Providers and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), are required to complete the Virginia Department of Social Services (DSS) background check. This process is now conducted online, and you will receive a link from CRS Licensing - Virginia Central Registry Search Authorization to complete the required form.
Accuracy is essential: The DSS has strict requirements. Ensure all fields are completed properly to avoid delays.
Previous Last Names: If you have had any prior last names due to marriage or divorce, you must provide an explanation for each name change.
Divorced Applicants: If you are divorced, you must select "Divorced" and provide your former spouse’s information in the required fields.
Spouse’s Maiden Name: If applicable, enter either “NMN” (No Middle Name) or the spouse’s actual birth last name if they had a name change.
Unacceptable Responses: The following responses will not be accepted and will result in delays or rejection of your background check:
These responses may be interpreted as actual names in certain cultures and will cause the form to be returned for corrections.
This will be sent out to you via a separate link via "CRS". Check your spam if you do not see it within 8 business hours (1 day) of your onboarding start date.
The link you receive has an expiration date. It must be completed the form within two business days.
Sunny Haven cannot resend the link—it is sent directly from DSS. If your link expires, you will need to contact DSS directly for a new one.
If you do not see the email from DSS, please check your spam or junk folder.

All new hires at Sunny Haven Residential Services are required to complete a Tuberculosis (TB) Assessment as part of the pre-employment health screening process. This assessment helps ensure the safety of both employees and the individuals we support by preventing the spread of tuberculosis, a potentially serious infectious disease. This is required before hire date.
It is the responsibility of the new hire to set this up and get it completed.

Each new hire is required to complete the Employee Contact Form in full. All sections must be completed—please do not leave any information blank.
Additionally, if your contact information changes at any time during your employment—such as a new phone number, email address, home address, or a legal name change—you must resubmit your updated information to HR as soon as possible. Keeping your contact details current ensures accurate communication regarding schedules, training updates, and important company announcements.
All new hires at Sunny Haven Residential Services are required to complete a Reference form and submit a Resume.
