PROTOTYPE PETS

Baby Pets

These pets were never produced. These are hand painted prototypes of pets that were designed for the Berry Baby line. There were eight different prototype baby pets.

Baby Marsh Mallard

Baby Marmalade

Baby Elderberry Owl

This is a resin hard copy of one of the baby pets that was never produced.

Baby Frappe Frog

This is not an official prototype but is a copy made from one of the originals.

Baby Cheesecake

Eclair Production Samples

The two on the left are production samples. The one on the far right is the actual pet produced for comparison. The production samples have different copyright markings and are slightly smaller than the Eclair that was released for sale.

PROTOTYPE BERRY PRINCESS

Both are Berry Princess prototypes

  • The one on the left is a kitbash, made from components of Barbie and Skipper dolls to demonstrate the overall concept before an actual prototype was produced. The complexion, facial features, and dress details are all hand-painted, and the hair is hand-rooted.

  • The doll on the right is the finished prototype that was photographed for the Kenner catalogs and other promotional purposes. Her hair was hand-rooted as well.

PROTOTYPE PHOTOGRAPHS

Both photographs below feature different prototypes of the Bradly Time Strawberry Shortcake Clock. The first features a clock radio prototype and the second a prototype of just the clock without the radio. The final product that made it to production was a combination of both. (You can find it on this page.) It was a standard clock without a radio but featured the Strawberry Shortcake name across the bottom and a red border around the clock.

CONCEPT DRAWINGS

Bradley Time Concept Art

This artwork was purchased from the daughter of a former Bradley Time executive. He kept them in his extensive collection after the ideas were scrapped.

PRODUCTION SAMPLES

These were purchased from the estate of a former Parker Brothers employee. These are production samples for the labels that would be placed on the game boxes for several of the Parker Brothers Strawberry Shortcake Games. There are both cut and uncut samples.

Uncut Sample

Uncut Sample

These are production samples of the metal Strawberry Shortcake lunchbox that remained unpunched.

ANIMATION ART

This is an original production animation pencil drawn sketch. It is on animation paper with peg holes along the bottom. An animation cell would be made from this. I believe it is from the video Strawberry Shortcake and the Baby Without a Name.

The background of this is painted on watercolor paper. The images of Sour Grapes and Purple Pieman are reverse pained on a clear acetate sheet that is an overlay for the background. They are two separate pieces.

Hand drawn sketch of Baby Needs a Name (referred to by her less commonly known name, Lullaberry) and Figboot. The Baby Needs a Name drawing was cut from another sheet and taped onto the page.

Various poses for Strawberry Shortcake from the Housewarming Surprise TV Special.

LITHOGRAPHS

A copy of this lithograph would have been sent to the manufacturer of the lunch box to reproduce.
