Fabulous Fakes - Dolls

There were several lines of dolls that came out in the 80s to capitalize on the success of Strawberry Shortcake. Some of these dolls were scented, others had pets similar to the pets found in Strawberryland. Like Strawberry Shortcake and her friends, these dolls have also become collectible but none to the extent of Kenner's original dolls.

LANARD JELLY BEAN DOLLS

Lanard released both regular dolls and minis similar to the Strawberryland Miniatures. There are color variations of the minis available as well that were sold under a different name.

SASSY DOLLS

This line of dolls was released in 1988. They are dressed in authentic Strawberry Shortcake clothing. They were made with factory leftovers that were sold to the company that produced these dolls. They can generally be found with clothing from the Party Pleaser, Sweet Sleeper, and Berrykin lines.

This doll is wearing a Cafe Ole Party Pleaser Dress and Berrykin tights.

This doll also came with shoes. Many of these dolls do not.

BABY PETALS

This line of dolls was made by Fun World in the 80s. There are three different dolls. A couple of different versions of two of the dolls exist.

Tulip (version 2)

She has an outfit that is reminiscent of Orange Blossom's.

OTHER DOLLS

This doll was purchased from France. I do not know anything about her, and she has no markings. She is wearing authentic European Cafe Ole shoes. I don't know if the other parts of her outfit are original to the doll or not.

NOTE: This is a knockoff from either Mexico or Venezuela. The person I bought it from grew up in Texas and believed it came from Mexico. I have seen other information saying it may have come from Venezuela.

There are at least two others in the series.

Based on the box pictures it looks like this may be the second doll pictured with the outfit of the first doll.

Translation: "Welcome to the fantastic world of strawberries."

RAGDOLLS

This doll is meant to be a knockoff of the Strawberry Shortcake ragdoll, but her face resembles the Raspberry Tart ragdoll more closely.
