Basics:
- Name: Kairos "Kai" Everluster
- School: Pensalir
- Age: 16
- Year: First
- Gender: Male
- Height: 176 cm
Race and Class Details:
- Race name: Pneuma
- Racial abilities: Pneumata are spirits capable of materializing and dematerializing a corporeal form in the physical plane via a small gem called an Anchor Crystal, they are even able to create multiple bodies. This ability makes them masters of multitasking. They can also store items in an extradimensional space called Elsewhere, primarily clothes to materialize along with and thus avoid indecency. Their capacity to materialize avatars and store things Elsewhere is primarily governed by their Memory, while the strength of their bodies is determined by Passion. They have no need for things like breathing, eating or drinking, but they do require rest. If their Anchor Crystal is destroyed they can eventually create a new one after a couple of hours, which then appears in the last valid location (where it won’t be immediately destroyed again) of their old one.
- Racial weaknesses:
- Their bodies are very weak and frail. Making a body requires them to bind some of their spiritual energy to that body, which they get back when they dematerialize it, but if it’s dead or hurt they get back much less, and as such lose energy. Spiritual energy can only be recovered by resting, so if enough of their avatars perish in a short period of time they’ll be unable to create new ones for a while and are thus unable to interact with the world.
- Pneumata may be able to have multiple bodies, but they only have one source of Passion. This means that if multiple avatars are using Passion at the same time the Passion needs to be divided between them, decreasing effectiveness.
- Their incarnations and spiritual presence can’t go very far from their Anchor Crystal, about 100 meters, and can only be created rather close to it, about 20 meters, if their crystal is broken it’s treated as if it still is where it was broken. When their crystal is destroyed they lose the ability to create new bodies and to dematerialize current ones until they create a new one.
- Even worse than having their Anchor Crystal ruined is having it stolen by someone stronger than them, which pretty much makes them powerless. If the gem is put in a magically sealed field they can’t materialize their avatars nor spiritually venture outside that field, magical lamps are a popular option for this, since it allows for easy summoning, even though Pneumata have no obligation to grant wishes.
- While technically immortal they start growing weaker after about 1.5 human lifetimes, eventually ending up pretty much powerless. The only way to reverse this process is to go through a ritual which effectively makes them born again as a new individual, with their old memories sealed away and without a known method of retrieval.
- Class: Epiphany (Healer)
- Sub-class: Luminary
- Brief sub-class summary: A magician focused on support with a scholarly approach toward spells. They study and research Passion and Memory to gain a deeper understanding of the world. A Luminary’s spells are called Luminary Sigils, and while Kai’s current ones are all light-themed, they don’t have to be.
Individual/sub-class powers:
Arcana Sensor: A Luminary can passively detect magic and, to a lesser extent, other Passion Techs. By actively concentrating on a specific effect they can attempt to gain more knowledge about it. The effectiveness of this ability is determined by Memory.
Luminary Sigils (including, but not limited to):
- Pure Sigil I: Undoing – Cleansing Light: Shines a soft light that ameliorates or removes harmful effects (debuffs/status ailments).
- Pure Sigil II: Restoration – Mending Light: Shines a soft light that heals and revitalizes.
- Infinite Sigil I: Dawn of Neutralization – Aurora: The caster fires rays of light intense enough to harm. Hitting someone also weakens/removes their temporary beneficial effects (buffs). Since the attack is light it’s immensely hard to dodge, already being too late once one sees the rays themselves.
- Transcendent Sigil IV: Relocation – Movement of Light: Temporarily grants the target greater speed. At the expense of the spell’s duration one can execute a Flash Step, a burst of extremely fast movement similar to a short-range teleportation.
- Celestial Sigil II: Illuminating Day – Sunlight: Either creates an orb or surrounds themselves with a shroud that shines bright light. Can have a blinding effect if looked at directly, and makes it difficult to see overall when looking in its general direction. The light from this spell is sunlight. It is possible to lower the brightness to just light up a dark area.
- Final Sigil VIII: Purity of Cessation – Lumen: A "Dark Desire" technique. The caster surrounds themselves with a progressively intensifying veil of light which first charges and then rapidly expands in all directions. This veil damages everything in its path and leaves behind a corrupting magical aura which inverts the effects of benevolent spells and makes magic harder to control.
Appearance:
- Picture or description in their usual dress: Kai wears elegant and formal clothes. Most, but far from all, of his clothes are predominantly white. Like all Pneumata his material form has purple eyes and is occasionally very slightly translucent, but otherwise looks completely human.
- Picture in formalwear: Kai always dresses formally.
