Basics:
- Name: Feren Aldebaran
- School: Pensalir
- Age: 14
- Year: First
- Gender: Male
- Height: 5’3” (1.60m)
Race and Class Details:
- Race name: Human/Sylphid, but legally considered as pure human
- Racial abilities: Affinity to the wind (more information below under “Individual powers”), but as a half-breed Feren is considerably weaker; physically indistinguishable from a regular human
- Racial weaknesses: Physical weakness and frailty
- Class: Thief
- Sub-class: Deadeye
- Brief sub-class summary: Deadeyes excel primarily at long distance combat due to their pinpoint accuracy when using ranged weaponry. Though they are traditionally associated with using snipers and such, some deadeyes use far less common weapons such as railguns or compound bows.
Individual powers:
- Current Control: Feren has the ability to create, remove, or even just change the intensity of currents (excluding electricity). In layman’s terms, Feren can manipulate wind, though technically this does work on other fluids such as water (at a far lowered efficiency based on its density).
Appearance:
- Picture or description in their usual dress: Feren’s most notable physical feature is his lack thereof—that is, extremely soft features and the opposite of a well-defined body. He has short and neatly-kept white hair, and a pale complexion (perhaps due to a lack of exposure to the sun). His clothes are pretty much the epitome of “casual wear”—and while the specifics may vary, they’re usually just a single, usually light color with no design (except occasionally a little gradient). Slung around his back almost like a quiver is the Loader Crossbow in its unprimed position.
- Weapons and combat gear they use: Loader Crossbow: Feren’s very own handcrafted weapon, the Loader Crossbow is a larger-than-average (at 38”/96.52cm) crossbow created primarily for long-distance combat. Despite its size, it’s actually fairly lightweight, mainly due to the primary material being a low-density metal (as if it was any heavier, Feren wouldn’t be able to carry it). It has a built-in ammo storage below the barrel and a scope above it, and the edges of the limbs are sharpened in order to function as a makeshift melee weapon in the worst case scenario. The limbs and stock are retractable for easier carrying out-of-combat.
Nature:
- Hometown: Pracha
- Personality: Raised with little to no interaction with people of his age, Feren is completely unaware of what is and isn’t a socially acceptable way to act—and, consequently, he is excessively blunt and lacks empathy to a fault (though in a positive light one could also say he is “honest”), saying or doing whatever he thinks without considering any consequences to it. Additionally, he also acts rather apathetic—not because he’s literally emotionless (he’s not), but because he has difficulty expressing it. Above all, he was taught to value self-preservation, which sometimes manifests as selfishness.
- How committed they are to their region: Not any more than he is to any other region
- Short backstory: The Aldebaran family was known for being one of the most prominent contributors to the rediscovery of technology for the North and South alike; had the family, for whatever reason, not make it to the third generation, the effects may have been disastrous. This exact threat presented itself when an accidental encounter with a beast without memory left Feren’s “mother” infertile, and to prevent it, his parents agreed to get a third party to birth the heir of the Aldebarans. This whole ordeal was concealed from the public eye, which could’ve been much easier had the birthmother not turn out to be non-human, a detail that his father was not aware of at the time. In fear of another accident with a beast without memory, and the possibility that the scandal may be inadvertently revealed, Feren was holed up in his family’s residence for most if not all of his life, with family-hired private tutors seeing him almost every day, until he eventually reached the age where he could be sent to Pensalir.
