CONTRACT DELIVERABLE ITEM DESCRIPTION (CDID's)
The sub-pages in this section constitute the standard deliverables and documents formats for the km6:km. Several are in draft form and subject to change.
It should be noted that the hri07e project is formatted around the km CDID's - i.e. all other SIG's are to conform to these basic standards within the hri07e project.
NOTE: Knowledge Management does not mean "library" and KM deliverables are specific to hri07e's particular twist on the subject - i.e about the management of knowledge not the content itself. The content will be defined by CDID's from other SIG's.
There are however common documents which cross over the professional areas that need to be identified - such as "reports" and "white papers". Where obvious these have CDID's in their appropriate SIG's - such as SIG:EDU for academic papers. Where no other SIG wnats them - they will be KM CDID's.
An explanation follows;
- A "literature search" looks at academic papers for the purpose of producing yet another academic paper. (see km101)
- A "white paper" is usually a corporate hack job produced for the purpose of furthering the marketing or public relations benefit of corporation. Occasionally they have useful, but always selective information – but almost never reveal anything about useful intellectual property. (future mktg CDID or ??)
- "Position Papers" are usually pre-negotiation statements of one side of an issue for political or legal debate.(future mktg CDID or ??)
- textbooks are (supposed to be) carefully written, peer reviewed collections of wisdom for the purposes of teaching. (future edu CDID)
- handbooks are carefully written, peer reviewed collections of wisdom for the purposes professional practice. (future ??? CDID)
- non-fiction books dealing with technical or professional matters are less predictable and should often be taken with a grain of salt. (future ??? CDID)
-other forms of publication such as manuals, websites, etc also are defined, usually by whoever needs them first
