Some of the best known standards are those used by the US Department of Defense (DoD) which were easily recognizable by their use of the acronyms MIL-STD followed by a number of sorts. These standards became unpopular because of the high cost associated with them and were finally eschewed by the DoD under the "Perry Memo"
