It is the intent of the hri07e project to develop the structures if not the capability for the automated use of project design and management data by web-based applications using whatever methods are available - including Semantic Web, RuleML, and other extensions of XML - or whatever looks good by the time it happens.
Essential to the hri07e approach are
data sheets
- these are the human readable formatted collections of data about engineered objects that collect the results of design efforts into a web accessible location and code them using mnemonics called "key codes".
key codes
- these are the mnemonic tags which are used to define the data elements in the data sheets. They imply formats, units and rules that are part of a controlled vocabulary defined by subject matter experts in the domains appropriate to the object being designed.
ISEL's (Integrated Systems & Equipment List)
- these are the data trees - from super-system to system to sub-system to assembly to part that order complex design objects into simpler objects - each tier of which has its own set of data elements defined by key codes.
CDID's (Contract Deliverable Item Descriptions)
- These would be called "reports" at first glance - but in fact that term only applies to a sub-set of the artifacts that are generated in the process of engineering and managing even smaller projects. A CAD file is a "deliverable" in this context, as is a rapid prototyped part, as is a timesheet, as is an invoice. The contents and formats of deliverables are also controlled by the subject mater experts in the appropriate domains and are posted as CDID's within the experts website.
It should not be assumed that "everybody knows" what something even as simple as an invoice or a timesheet looks like - as it has been demonstrated hundreds of times by small companies that they don't.
SIG's (Special Interest Groups)
- SIG's are the core of hri07e Knowledge Management practices as they are the experienced people who understand the jargon and methods used in whatever the specialist domain is. These are not all science and technology domains; as it is as important to get the legal and financial details right as it is the technical ones (except perhaps for those details that kill and injure people).
There could be hundreds of SIG's but hri07e is trying to squeeze the relevant ones into a couple of dozen active SIG's for the time being. These are the "km6" Google sites visible to HRI members.
