Review
This was the 15th anniversary of this race, so I had to sign up!
This is also the first marathon of 2026, so I didn't properly do any winter training sadly. I was just here to have fun!
I drove up to Pittsburgh to fly to Baton Rouge because I would only have one connecting flight through Charlotte, NC. If I flew out of Morgantown, I would have had two connecting flights (ugh).
The race weekend is always on MLK weekend, so I was able to take full advantaged of the holiday on Monday
The expo was at the Raising Canes River Center Ballroom, and it was basically one big room
There was a place to buy merch. The other tables there were promoting various businesses
The 5K and Quarter Marathon started 8 am on Saturday at AZ Young Park.
We split off from the 5K runners around 1.5 miles in
We ran throughout the suburbs for the rest of the course
Everyone had 3 food/beverage tickets on their bib. So we could mix and match what we wanted! Additionally, someone gave me their 3 tickets, so I was able to have one of everything!
There were 4 beer options
There were 3 food options (gumbo, beans and rice, and jambalaya)
The half and marathon runners started at 7 am on Sunday at AZ Young Park
The weather was chilly since it was in the low 30s, but it warmed up to high 40s by the end
We split off from the half-marathoners around mile 10.5
Everyone ran around the Beauregard Town Historic District, Magnolia Mound Park, LSU campus, and Edward Avenue Park
The marathoners had a couple of out-and-backs; mile 14-15 at Westdale Terrance and miles 19-20 at Oak Valley
The second half of the course was party central! I was *very* drunk since all of the alcohol stops were here!
Everyone had 6 food/beverage tickets on their bib. So we could mix and match what we wanted! The same food and beverage options were available from Saturday
This was a great race since the course is mostly flat! Additionally, there were a lot more spectators for the second half of the marathon, so I didn't feel lonely
I can see people use this course to BQ and/or PR
