Review
This was the 25th anniversary of this race, so I had to sign up!
Additionally, I was one of the pacers for this race, so I got to run for free!
Getting to Pocatello was incredibly hard!
I had to fly from Morgantown--> Chicago--> Salt Lake City. Then take a bus from Salt Lake City --> Pocatello
The bus leaving SLC was delayed due to traffic, so we ran behind by about 2 hours. I missed the expo, but fortunately one of the pacers picked up my race materials!
Since the race was A-->B, we had to take buses to the start at 5:15 am from the host hotel.
The first half of the race was the actual downhill portion (approx. 1500 feet).
It was also much cooler, had a lot more animals, and a lot less spectators
The only uphill portion of the first half was around mile 7-8 since it was a bit of an out-and-back.
The second half was outright brutal
It had a ton of rolling hills
We were in direct sunlight
The scenery was worse
I used the second half to slow down my pacing since it was harder than the first, especially around mile 17 since it was really uphill
The finish line area had a ton of snacks, massages, and beer!
The massages were offered through the school's PT program!
I don't think I would run this course again due to the difficulties in getting to Idaho and the course itself
Even if I did the half marathon, I would still find that extremely challenging
