Review
I picked this race because it was voted the best marathon in New York on RaceRaves (The NYC Marathon wasn't an option)
Getting to and from New York was relatively easy since I stayed on the highway most of the time
The expo was in the Corning Musuem of Glass, so we were able to walk through a bunch of cool looking glassware and sculptures
We received a nice tote bag, a small bottle of champagne, and a wine glass from the expo!
There was also a free wine tasting, so I was able to sample about 8 wines!
The winery offered free wine tastings after the marathon if we showed our medals. However I was tired and wanted to get back home after the race.
Runners had the opportunity to board busses in either Bath or Corning
I drove to Corning and used the parking garage since we ended there
The marathon starts in Bath and we end in Corning
For some reason, the half-marathoners started at 7:45 and the marathoners started at 8:15. By the time we started, it was already in the 50s but it warms up very quickly
We run through several small towns and along country roads, so there weren't surrounded by spectators most of the time
The halfway point is at the Campbell-Savona High School (where the half-marathoners started)
We were in the sun most of the time, so I felt hot
The mile markers seemed very off to me. There was one area where the half-marathon sign was "Mile 11" and then "Mile 24" was afterwards. The signs need to be switched. Additionally, there was spray-paint indicating the mile markers, but they never matched up with the signs
The finish line was spectacular!
There were lots of pop (I don't drink pop)
Cookies
Muffins
Pizza
Soup (chicken noodle and tomato)
A sitting area
It was nice to hang out in the sitting area since I was able to eat and talk to my fellow runners. A lot of people used this marathon as their first time, which is impressive!
Overall this is a nice race, but I don't think I would do the marathon again. It is technically net downhill, but there were a lot of rolling hills
I might do the half-marathon when it's the 50th anniversary
