I drove from WV to DE!
This drive felt much longer than 5 hours. My maps said 5.25 hours, but it felt much longer for some reason
This race had a 5K on Saturday and various distances on Sunday (9K, half-marathon, and marathon)
There were challenge options if someone wanted to run on both days
5K + 9K: Cape Challenge
5K + Half Marathon: Fort Miles Challenge
5K + Marathon: Tower Challenge
I wish there were more spectators and crowd support. At least there were tons of volunteers to make the course doable!
I thought this race was very popular, so I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of spectators
The course is mostly flat, with few hills
The highest hill we had to run on was on the Freeman Bridge, around mile 18
We ran through suburbs/road, dirt trails, and wooden bridges. It was hard to get solid footing during the race unfortunately.
I wouldn't use this course if you want to PR
The finish area on Sunday was at a bar/restaurant and it was an after party!
The major sponsor was Grotto pizza and I wish I lived closer to them because I fell in love with their pizza this weekend!
Our buffet included chicken, pizza, and salad. And of course, the runners on Sunday had 3 beer tickets
The after party on Saturday was held in a park, and we had 2 beers and pizza!
The expo was at the convention center, and it was very small
Check in was easy and quick
Runners only received their shirts and a pint glass.
I ran this marathon since I needed a DE marathon. I was in between this one, the one held in December, and the Wilmington one. I picked this one because it fit better in my schedule and it seemed to have better reviews
Maybe there are more spectators in Wilmington?
My only major complaint is the weather
It got up to high 60s-low 70s, so I wasn't doing so well towards the last 1/3 of the race
Additionally since there is next to no shade along the course, I felt the sun hit me often
This is a good race if you want a solid afterparty!
