What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving early than a big-ol international potluck?!? That's exactly what we did. We had international students from UCSD and SDSU as well as Bridges staff, student leaders, and volunteers all bringing fun dishes and sharing global food experiences. More students showed up than we thought, as you may notice from how crammed we are into this room, but that just made it a bit more fun.
For the second year in a row, Doug and Darci Worth graciously opened their home for this event. The Worth's attend Grace City Church, one of our partner churches, and they absolutely love the opportunity to help in sharing the Gospel with people from all over the world.
Here are some photos of the event:
Our co-worker, Steve Dueck, delivered a Thanksgiving message involving a retelling of the prodigal son story. Steve is a gifted evangelist and loves caring for students. We are thankful to be able to work with him. Oh, fun face, Steve and his wife, Alyssa, used to serve with Cru in Italy alongside Lauren Kish who is my Bridges co-leader here in San Diego.
Afterward, an Indian international student shared this with us:
"That was the best evening I have had since I arrived. I haven't felt that loved and connected since I left home."
That was her first Bridges event. Since this event, we have been able to see her 3 other times and she has expressed interest in wanting to anything Bridges puts together.
Praise God with us for these opportunities to grow and share with students.
These fun party events are great ways to introduce international students to a community of believers so we can have better, future opportunities to hear their stories and share with them the good news of Jesus Christ. Please pray for these events.
Sam Davis has focused on international student ministry since 2010 and is on staff with Cru and Bridges International in San Diego, CA. His passion for leading others into a close relationship with Jesus is shown in his general love for people and focus on discipleship.
Sam and his wife, Gloria, love to travel, meet people, eat great food, and hike.
