Krish, one of our Indian international students told me after spending Thanksgiving at our house a few weeks ago. Gloria and I hosted Thanksgiving with her family at our house this year (for the first time ever, I might add) and we had the joy of inviting some international students to join us through a Bridges program called Friends For Dinner.
Krish and Yash are brothers from India. Krish is studying at UCSD and Yash just graduated from NYU and moved here to work with Amazon. They brought a homemade Paneer Tikka Masala that made all the spicy-food lovers in the house happy.
Tiffany, a Chinese international student, has been a Bridges student leader for over a year and is always awesome to be around. She brought a delicious rice pilaf. Our students are so talented!
My coworker, Brittany, also joined us! Brittany is on staff with Cru here in San Diego but is originally from Chicago. She brought this dessert that she dared to call "Taffy Apple Salad." It's a salad in the broadest sense of the word, but a super tasty dessert that'll have you coming back for more.
I'm so glad you asked! Friends For Dinner is "a hospitality program that brings International Students into the homes of friendly Americans for a tasty meal during the traditional holidays of Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas." (https://friends-for-dinner.com/)
Our Bridges team runs the Friends For Dinner program here in San Diego, but currently only for Thanksgiving. We are hoping to expand into other holidays in the future, though. This year we were excited to be able to put 22 students into homes for Thanksgiving day!
