Welcome to the PKMN-WOE Design Guide!
This guide is intended to cover as many bases as possible and is fairly detailed. For your first character a lot of this info might not be super useful as it goes into depth on Fusion, Type Variation, Tonics, Elixirs, and the like. In general, if a Pokemon is recognizable as its species and anthro, you are good to go!
For every design now, we request you send in their design through your ticket on discord.
When creating a design for your tenant, all features of a characters' design should be traced back to:
The Pokemon Species.
The majority to all of a Pokemon's traits should be represented for tenants with no fusions/type changes/modifying items/etc so that the Pokemon species remains recognizable.
Ex. A Pikachu tenant can have bright red cheeks, a zigzag lightning bolt tail, yellow fur among other traits.
What the Pokemon Species is based on.
Ex. Houndoom has no ears despite being based on a Doberman. A Houndoom tenant can introduce Doberman style ears or Doberman style markings.
Ex. Bunnelby has upright rabbit ears. Rabbits in real life can have droopy ears. A Bunnelby tenant can have droopy rabbit ears.
Any items used to modify the character.
Ex. A Bulbasaur’s bud might be on fire if they are a fire type variation.
Ex. A pinkan tenant will be pink regardless of their original species coloration.
A General Anthro/Humanoid Form
We ask that human styled ears/noses be used sparingly unless the pokemon has them present on the design already or the species already leans towards a human design (Ex. Gardevoir, Jynx, Hitmonchan, Etc).
Humanoid skin tones should not be introduced to a design if they weren’t already present.
Ex. Wooper has no arms or hands. A Wooper tenant can have humanoid arms though they aren’t required to.
Moving Traits
Traits can be moved around the tenant’s body slightly as long as they maintain a similar function.
Valid Ex. Dunsparce wings moving from the shoulders to the sides of the head or lower back.
Invalid Ex. Ursaring claws moved to the top of the head like a crown of horns. This would not be allowed.
This rule is more forgiving on pokemon that are just a head as we don’t have a body to draw designs from.
Ex. A Forretress tenant might have their turrets lining their spine instead of on the sides of their head or in addition to ones on the sides of their head.
Clothes as Traits
Many Pokemon have features that mimic clothing. For tenants, these can be portrayed as part of the tenant’s body, as removable, or they can be made into markings on the character’s body.
Eye Colors
Iris color can be whatever you want it to be, though if you change the sclera color or pupil color from what the pokemon species originally had then the mods prefer you have an in-character reason for it. This could be something like losing the eye in the tenant’s life.
Color Variation
You are free to change colors slightly when it comes to saturation and brightness, but we ask that you keep roughly the same hue, please don’t change green to yellow or pink to red.
Dyed Hair/Fur
Woe characters may have as much dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings as you like. Try to keep dyed fur to a minimum. Less than 5% of the body should be dyed this way and your character must maintain the dye or enlist someone at the spa to do it for them.
Wings
Tenants may have a maximum wingspan equal to triple their height. Example: A 5’0” tenant may have a wingspan of up to 15’ long.
You do not have to use the maximum, especially since some species have intentionally small wing to body ratios, but you cannot go past that limit. The larger the wingspan, the less likely it is the tenant can even open their wings indoors.
Limbs
Tenants are allowed to have one set of arms and legs by default even if their species does not have them.
Tenants can have two sets of arms if their Pokemon species has 2 or more sets of arms.
Tenants must not have more than two sets of legs or a non bipedal form unless they gain that form in a mega design or through a vial item.
Gendered Pokemon & Forms
Gender distribution of pokemon does not matter when creating a Woe character. You can have a female Gallade or a male Hatterene. When it comes to Pokemon with gender differences such as Frillish, you must simply choose one of the forms to base a character off of.
Height & Weight
Tallest characters should be 290-310cm (9’6-10’1), smallest characters should be 90-110cm (2’11-3’7).
Weight is not as heavily regulated due to some Pokemon being incorporeal and others being made of solid metal. We ask that if your character has a weight that falls out of typical human weights, that there is some justification in their species. There is a maximum weight limit of 999.9 kg. Your tenant cannot go past this limit.
Clone/Reference Characters & Self Inserts
You can create characters that have designs/personality traits/backstory that are inspired by popular media. However, the keyword here is inspired, you are not allowed to create clone characters. If the mod team deems that your character is taking too much from a character from popular media, we will have to reject them and ask for changes.
Please do not use self-inserts. Creating characters with similar characteristics to you is fine, but avoid making a character that is an exact clone of you with the same name.
When a tenant uses a monotype mark or type changing sigil, they can change their designs considerably to match. These are non-exhaustive lists of what kinds of traits & motifs can be used with each type.
Normal: Beige/Brown Colors, Removing Fantastical Traits

When it comes to judging a design, we consider Modifying Items to be applied in this order to the Pokemon Species, regardless of what order they were applied to the character. This allows us to keep elixir colors consistent.
All Tonics
Pre-Process Elixirs
Inverted Coloration
Fusion Rituals, Type Changing Sigils, & Monotype Marks
Post-Process Elixirs
Pinkan Coloration, Albino Coloration, Melanistic Coloration
Tonics always apply to the Base Pokemon species. Contrasting Elixirs apply directly afterwards.
Pink, White, and Black Elixirs always apply last.
General Redesigns
You do not need to purchase an item to change aspects of a characters design like scars, injuries, hair length, hair dye, etc. You must still show the new design to the mod team to verify, though in most cases this is a formality.
Please follow the same process when evolving a character, though the character must reach rank 4 first.
Redesigning Fusions/Type Changes
If you are redesigning your character without changing anything that would require an item (not changing the species of a fusion or types in a type v), you may redesign the character for free. This redesign can be canon for the character or you may deem the old design noncanon and act like this was their design the entire time.
If you are not feeling connected with your character and you feel the need to redesign them in a way that would require an item to redo, you may ask the team for a redesign. These redesigns will always render the previous design noncanon, every character will act as if your character had this design the entire time. If you wish to keep the previous design canon, you need to buy the respective item.
If you redesign your character without buying an item. You must wait a month before doing so again.
Ultimately, the redesign items in the shop are meant to account for canon design changes, (design changes that characters will see in character and potentially ones to move a character’s story forward), that change things in our database (Fusion Species, Typing). We don’t want a WC barrier to you enjoying a character that you have already invested a lot of time and WC in.
Type Sigil Chalk Ex. A Grass/Ground Bulbasaur tenant with a general earth theme wants to redesign into a Grass/Rock Bulbasaur with a geode theme. This is an in-character change that falls in line with the character’s story. This change must be done by buying Type Sigil Chalk.
Free Redesign Non Canon Ex. Member 1 has a Grass/Ground Bulbasaur tenant with a general earth theme. They have not been enjoying using them as is and they want to change them to be a Grass/Rock Bulbasaur with a geode theme. This is not for storyline reasons and would not be an in character change. This member can come to the mod team with the redesign for free, the old Grass/Ground design would be considered non canon.
Free Redesign Canon Ex. Member 2 has a Grass/Ground Bulbasaur tenant with a general earth theme. They have not been enjoying using them as is and they want to change them to be a Grass/Ground Bulbasaur with a desert theme. This will not require an item to change. This member can come to the mod team with the redesign for free. The previous Grass/Ground earth themed Bulbasaur can be considered canon if the Member wishes.
