Throughout your character's time in Woe Manor, they will have opportunities to interact and forge relationships with NPCs. These relationships can be positive or negative, and even fluctuate between the two. These relationships are tracked by mods through a hidden relationship points mechanic. By garnering a relationship with an NPC a character can receive gifts, an entry on an NPC's relationship chart, and a large role in the NPC's story.
Points are recorded and tracked on a hidden document. Mods keep records of your character’s points and how they have acquired them.
Relationships in Woe are placed on a 9 category scale: Targeting, Hostile, Hates, Dislikes, Neutral, Likes, Enjoys, Friend, Very Close.
You may ask a mod for your tenants relationship with a certain NPC at any time and the team will respond with which of these 9 categories your character falls under. Note that this is intended to be OOC information that your character has no access to. An NPC might behave friendly even if they hate you.
Once a tenant reaches Hostile or Friend, you receive an entry on the NPC’s site page and several rewards detailed below.
There are many ways to gain and lose NPC relationship points. NPC relationship points do not decay or passively increase through any method. NPC relationship points are not affected by death and revival, though some NPCs might have reactions to a tenant's death.
Participate in RPs/Worldbuilding Sessions that involve NPCs
Sometimes these RPs are organized by mods, they can be requested by members but we cannot guarantee a mod has time to RP at any given time.
Completing certain Prompts
Event prompts involving NPCs
Be hired by an NPC
Interact with the manor in certain ways
Destroying an NPCs workspace can negatively impact their opinion of you
Draw/Write about your character interacting with an NPC outside of a prompt.
We judge points on a case by case basis, but talk to us in your ticket if you'd like to get a clear handle on how an NPC would interact with a character.
Sometimes mods are able to offer collaborations on these pieces but we cannot guarantee a mod has time to complete a collaboration at any given time.
Participate in NPC Interaction Activities
Sometimes certain developments in Woe Manor's story can cause NPCs to want to reach out to tenants for a variety of reasons. Maybe an NPC needs a shoulder to cry on, maybe an NPC wants to shed some blood, maybe an NPC is looking for allies, no matter the case, the NPC Interaction role allows us to directly reach out to members to offer personal interactions with NPCs based on their character's relationship with said NPC.
This role is optional and you can still participate in the relationship system without it. You must opt into this role by messaging a mod within your ticket.
This role allows staff to ping members with potentially personalized interactions opportunities. These opportunities occur based on how many relationship points your characters have. These plans will be discussed within a thread in your ticket if you choose to go through with them, just to keep your ticket clean!
After an opportunity is proposed, you have a month to accept it otherwise it expires. Once you accept the opportunity, there is no deadline to complete it.
There will only be 1-3 interaction opportunities a month to participate in. It is possible that your characters do not qualify for all of them or any of them at all.
Anything can be done for the prompts, brief hc/art/literature. Sometimes mods are able to offer rp or collabs, but that is not guaranteed!
Please notify the mod team within the ticket once the interaction is concluded so we may reward appropriate relationship points.
Interaction Ex. A message is sent to any members who have a character with a positive relationship with Weston. "Weston has personally offered you a gift of several luxury cheese samples, will you accept it?" If the member chooses to accept this interaction, they may briefly hc the interaction (giving a slight relationship boost) or draw/write about the interaction (giving a larger relationship boost). The member lets the mod team know when the interaction is completed and we update the relationship of your character and the NPC.
Upon reaching a significant negative or positive relationship with an NPC several things will occur.
A relationship writeup will be added to the NPC’s page on the Woe site.
This relationship will remain on the site and will be updated if your tenant’s relationship with the NPC changes categories.
A grapevine message will be announced with this relationship writeup.
The tenant will receive several rewards depending on if the relationship is positive or negative.
The NPC specific items received are bound to the character and cannot be given to other characters through any means. These items sell for 0 WC and will disappear if your tenant perma dies/ascends.
However any members who have revived tenants that owned these exclusive furniture items can request the items back through your ticket. We manage items this way to keep things clear on the mod’s end.
The general items can be given to other characters (revival herbs, strange runes).
Positive relationships also get the NPC’s phone number, an item that has a one time use effect outlined here.
It is possible to gain a romantic relationship with an NPC, however these relationships will never be permanent. Depending on the NPC, mod plans, and the current relationship, the romance can last between 1 month & 6 months. You can end the relationship before this time is up, but after that date the relationship will end no matter what. There is the potential for a relationship to be rekindled later on, but it isn't guaranteed.
If you wish to start a relationship with an NPC you may use the form below. We will respond with the NPCs response and how long the relationship will last.
Once you are refused by an NPC you may not ask again until the next month.
You may only have one character in a romantic relationship with an NPC at a time, there is a very limited number of NPCs and we want to make sure everyone gets a chance with them!
Characters that are within their grace period will be automatically refused. You are still fresh meat at the manor and not a safe bet no matter how perfect you are!
If you are accepted, and you aren't happy with the length, you can choose to make the proposal non-canon.
Being refused can affect your character's relationship with the NPC in a positive or negative way. This cannot be deemed non canon. Think hard about asking!
Unlike having a friendly relationship with an NPC, a romantic relationship garners no mechanical rewards. We have it set up like this intentionally due to there being limited NPCs to romance and most of them wanting to remain exclusive.
Please note that having an NPC ship does not guarantee collabs or rps from the mod team. Time is often tight, there are many NPCs, and the mod team would like time to focus on their own character plans as well. If you prefer your ship partner to be heavily involved in the ship, this system might not live up to your expectations.
