XI. The Yawning Deep

After months of renovations, it was the night before the pool would finally be opened. Unown servants had slaved away, fixing damage from long fights in between tenants, cleaning up satanic graffiti that seemed like it was written in blood, and focusing on their actual job, fixing the filtration of the pool. Well, at least that is what everyone was told the issue was.

The pool was actually pretty much finished… the only thing left was to test if it was truly safe for tenants. That was something the unown could deal with in the early morning hours. The buzz of the pool opening was already getting around, and both Wave and Dusty were clearly excited. There were even rumors of Klaus attempting to steal Weston’s keys to get in and take a swim.

The grand opening was set for that morning. Tenants crowded around the pool room. All the staff were there… except for Seth…. When Weston opened the door, the pool was blood red, almost mutant unown bodies strewn about the surface. They all had gills and the tails of different sea creatures and they were all mauled.

A portion of the crowd of tenants and staff approached the edge of the pool, others shrunk back in horror. Weston didn’t look surprised. “It doesn’t seem like they were able to fix it.... I don’t know why I expected them to heheheh....” He placed his hand on Roth’s back, and shoved them in. The meowth thrashed in the water for a few seconds, waterlogged screeches filling the room as his head bobbed above the water. Before anyone could jump in after him… something changed about Roth, their lower body had changed into the tail of a fish.

They breached the surface, still clearly in pain from the transformation, propping themself up on the side of the pool and gasping. “Th-the bottom of the pool it-it, isn’t there… It’s like the ocean…”

As the blood thinned from the water, the crowd could see that Roth was right, it was deeper than they could have imagined. And from the yawning deep, they could hear faint screams and a solemn song.

Welcome to The Yawning Deep event...

This event will be active from May 1st to June 30th!

All art submissions must include at least one lined(or lineless) halfbody, with either color or shading, to be counted for the prompt bonuses.

All literature submissions must include at least 750 words to be counted for the prompt bonuses.

Each piece can only complete one prompt!

Prompts

Prompt A || A Cursed Tail || 50wc & 50exp

It seems entering the pool will slowly turn you into an aquatic monstrosity or a beautiful mermaid...

Draw your character's new form... The dark magic of the pool has changed your secondary type to water and has changed their appearance to suit, you better hope this isn't permanent. These designs can be as monstrous as you wish and mermaids of any type (octopus, eel, shark, etc.) are allowed.

This prompt must be completed before any others for this event. This transformation allows your character to enter the depths of the pool without the risk of drowning.

This is not a fusion, a character can gain the tail of a mermaid, but cannot gain the tail + design features of a primarina specifically.

If a character already has water in their typing, their typing won't change but their form still will.

This prompt can only be completed once per character.

This prompt must be at least a fullbody for artists, but can be completed with 250 words for writers.

Prompt B || Sunken Treasures || 50wc + ???

The depths of the pool seem to be covered in ruins, sunken ships, and other abandoned structures that mimic... the living world?

Have your character explore sunken ruined structures. These structures can be familiar places from a character's past life, or can just be eerie waterlogged settings. You might find something inside of them...

This prompt can only be completed once per character.

This prompt must have a background.

Prompt C || Blood in the Water || 50wc

There is a fairly clear trail of blood in the water, leading from the pool into the depths of this sea. Maybe following it will reveal something important.

Follow the traces of blood in the water. Maybe it will lead to the missing staff?

This prompt can be only be completed once per character.

Prompt D || A Siren’s Call || 50wc - 100wc

There she is, the person behind this watery hellscape… Abyss… and she doesn’t look like she is going to go down easy…

Draw/Write about your character fighting Abyss and her henchmen. Be careful… losing this fight would be disastrous…

This prompt can only be completed once per character!

Important Things to Note:

Your character can die here! Please be aware of this!
Multiple people collaborating lowers the risk of bad things happening to your characters.
You cannot buy revival herbs retroactively. Your character must have a revival herb in their inventory at the time of death to save them.

Prompt D-ii || Fin and Tail

Your strength is lacking in physical attributes, though your magic and support abilities should be extremely helpful. Buff your allies with spells, or try to distract some of the henchmen. Whatever you do, do it quick, for some reason, your mind is getting cloudy...

Success is based on WIS, INT, and CHA.

Event Reward || Milotic Plushie

By completing at least one prompt during the Yawning Deep event with a character, that character will be rewarded a surprise gift at the end of the event. Who knows what it will be...

...

You find a milotic plushie on your bed the next time you visit your room... There is a shiny variety and a normal variety. It is small, but well-made.
