Question 1: What do you want people who don't know about your community to learn about?
Answer: I want people to learn that it's easier to grow food in your backyard than to trust the food brought from the grocery store. By growing your own produce, you know that the food you are feeding your family is safe and free!
Question 2: What aspect do you love about your community?
Answer: I love how supportive the staff, community members, elders, and children are. Their respect for the land, the insects, spirits, and ancestors that live there is evident through the work at Sankofa.
Question 3: What is your favorite memory at Sankofa?
Answer: I would say every day is a favorite memory of mine. I love working with the youth, the staff, and the new people that come in. I love preparing the food that we later cook and eat together. The knowledge behind everything that we do and know it's for people to retain and hopefully pass that knowledge on to someone is simply beautiful.
Question 4: What are the resources and strengths of Sankofa?
Answer: The community's strengths are the youth and the elders that pass on the knowledge and wisdom of the past to future generations. Support is always present in our community, and so is the love for the people.
