The drawing I created is a representation of my interviewee’s best memory in her community mixed with her growing concern with its current state. She has lived in the community for 46 years, and most fondly remembers walking to the community pool each afternoon as a kid with her friends. She explained that a lot has changed in her community, and she worries about all the young children because of the increasing gun violence. The staff member I interviewed stated that she hears gunshots at least every other day and must call her family members constantly to make sure they are safe. However, she still has a lot of appreciation for the resources offered in the community. It has rental assistance to help find housing, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries for adult and child day care, and Temple Hospital for health promotion. The community also has a boys and girls club that has done a lot of good. With my drawing, I hope to highlight both the nostalgia of what the community used to be, and the reality both and bad of what the community is today.
