YES is a different place for a lot of people. If you ask the staff they don’t want to be seen as teachers, but l know that the youth look up to them as mentor figures. Days in and days out the kids aren’t the same and connecting with them is something that is on a case to case basis. Some youth will leave the first day of placement, some will need to stay at the shelter for over a year. When asked what is good about yes, the person interviewed could not give an answer. There are good people but the administration is unorganized ever since one key figure left. There is a lot of junk that keeps YES from being good in their eyes. In the end its about making it a comfortable and safe place for the kids to rest no matter what is happening outside of its walls.
