(Her)story
When Miss Majesty struts into Mazzoni, all eyes are on her.
Magnificent and monumental, Miss Majesty dazzles with sparkles of Divine Femininity;
One can’t help but greet her with deferency!
She’s so stunning - the way she transcends the concept of gender.
She’s beauty, she’s grace,
~ the radiance of her face ~
Miss Majesty glows, so
Much brighter than anyone else you’ve ever seen -
Even though she’s lived through parts of history
When it was hard to be out as LGBT.
Miss Majesty makes the world a better place to be;
She’s an icon, a trailblazer - Miss Majesty is NO matron,
But a celestial Queen Bee.
When she speaks you wonder: “Oh my gosh, is she talking to me?!” As you look up with excitation.
Perhaps her head is in the clouds,
Because she just knows so much about astrology.
Miss Majesty mastered the planets and the stars -
Decades before being on Co-star was cool for you and me.
With her resonant voice she speaks words of great wisdom;
A soul resplendent like that, you see so very seldom.
Miss Majesty - now she’s what you’d call a somewhat of a legacy. So self-assured and sublime I could really only ever hope to be.
I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Majesty at a Community Advising Board meeting, where she had the opportunity to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the scope of work addressed within the Care Services department, and to identify places for growth of the Mazzoni Center’s Medical Case Management team and services offered. She helped develop survey questions for the Care Services department to use to evaluate their performance and the success of case managers, to track the needs of the community members we serve, and to measure the extent to which the Mazzoni Center adequately addresses those needs. As a prominent member of the community and a highly esteemed patient, Miss Majesty was called in for her expertise on this matter, in addition to a handful of other distinguished patients, since they have been receiving services at the Mazzoni Center for over forty years. She was able to provide invaluable insight as to the impact of the services we offer, as she herself has been a recipient of Ryan White funding and eligible for medical case management, the Food Bank, and other resources only available to low-income HIV+ patients through this program for quite some time now, and her perspective is one that is valued highly. Meeting Miss Majesty and the other “legacy patients” was an honor, and definitely a highlight of my Bridging the Gaps internship experience.
