Storytelling Project

For this project, I was able to have a very impactful conversation with an individual who was able to share meaningful information on what it means to be a member of his community. He shared that he wants everyone to know that his community is not just a stereotype and that they don’t just have issues - they can also bring solutions to the table. He admires how his community tackles the many challenges that they face and how when someone needs support, all hands are on deck to help them. He also reflected on how members of his community have many hidden talents. He stated that south Philly, which is where he lives, stands on its own and his community takes pride in that. When asked about how Covid has affected his community, he mentioned how it raised awareness of the issues that have been there for years before related to poverty and a lack of resources, and how Covid, thus, stressed the need to address those issues. He then again emphasized the strength of his community and their ability to come up with solutions by talking about the many community organizations and projects that have begun to address any disparities that exist.
