Southwest CDC:
Southwest CDC improves the quality of life in Southwest Philadelphia. We help families stay in their homes by preventing foreclosure. We help keep families warm in winter by providing heating assistance programs. We help protect and educate children whose parents cannot afford a babysitter by providing an enriching after school program. We provide support and share resources with neighborhood businesses. We organize neighbors to participate in the zoning decisions that impact the community. We publish the community newspaper to share the stories and information about the good, positive and optimistic happenings to counter the negative. We help those who are able and want to work break down the barriers and find a job. We clean Woodland Avenue, the neighborhood’s main street, so shoppers can spend their hard earned income in a pleasant atmosphere.
About Southwest Philly and Working with Children:
After interviewing two staff members from Southwest CDC, I used my crocheted dolls to create some pictures that summarize the key points from the interview.
