As part of our school's ongoing participation in the Erasmus+ program, we hosted a group of students and teachers from ITIS G. Armellini, Italy, in April 2024. This exchange followed our school's visit to Rome earlier in the year, from March 4th to 9th, 2024.
Participants & Objectives
The incoming mobility involved 7 students and 3 teachers from ITIS G. Armellini. The primary objectives of this exchange were to foster intercultural understanding, enhance communication skills, and promote collaborative learning between students from both schools. Additionally, the visit aimed to provide the Italian students with a comprehensive understanding of Cypriot culture, history, and contemporary society, with a particular emphasis on environmental awareness and sustainability.
The students attended classes in English, Technology, and Physical Education, experiencing the Cypriot educational system firsthand.
The group visited the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) Cyprus in Larnaca, where they attended lectures from the English Language and Literature department, gaining insights into higher education in Cyprus.
The group visited the Kavo Greco Environmental Centre, where they engaged in interactive activities focused on sea pollution and recycling. They watched an educational video highlighting the biodiversity of the area and participated in discussions about environmental challenges and solutions. A nature walk allowed students to explore the local environment and appreciate the natural beauty of the area.
Cultural Visits: The group explored the historic old town of Nicosia, visited the picturesque village of Lefkara, and learned about the rich history and cultural heritage of Cyprus.
Understanding the Cyprus Problem: A visit to the Green Line in both Deryneia and Nicosia provided a poignant insight into the division of the island and the ongoing Cyprus problem.
Sports Activities: A friendly futsal match with mixed teams of Cypriot and Italian students encouraged teamwork and sportsmanship.
Futsal Game with Itis G. Armellini students and Paralimni Lyceum students playing in mixed teams
Europe Day Celebrations: The students joined our school in celebrating Europe Day, participating in communal activities and festivities.
Traditional Dance: The Italian students had the opportunity to dance traditional dances with our students.
The exchange with ITIS G. Armellini proved to be a rewarding experience for all involved. The Italian students gained valuable insights into Cypriot life, formed lasting friendships, and strengthened their intercultural communication skills. The visit successfully contributed to promoting European cooperation and solidarity among young people. The environmental activities at the Kavo Greco Environmental Centre were particularly impactful, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental challenges and inspiring the students to become active stewards of the planet. The visit to UCLAN Cyprus provided valuable exposure to university life and academic pursuits.
