Purpose of Assessment & Function(s)/Area(s) Assessed
The purpose of the BOT-2 is to assess an individual's motor abilities looking at both fine and gross motor. This can assess children who are typically developing or individuals with mild to moderate motor deficiencies. This assessment can help determine motor abilities which can further help the treatment plan and make educational program decisions.
Administration (time to administer, group/individual, if there are subtests, can they be completed individually, are there specific instructions to ensure standardization, etc.)
10-15 minutes per subtest
40-60 minutes for complete form
10-20 minutes for short form
subtests include:
fine motor precision
fine motor integration
Manual dexterity
bilateral coordination
balance
running speed and agility
upper-limb coordination
strength
The fine motor form administers 1, 2, 3, and 7 and the gross motor form administers 4, 5, 6, and 8
composite scores:
fine manual control
manual coordination
body coordination
strength and agility
total motor composite
gross motor composite
fine motor composite

Scoring Procedure (how is assessment scored and what does score indicate)
For the gross motor form, one must calculate the total points scored from each subtest and transfer them to the record form. In this form, the correct gender must be used. Using the test manual, scores can be converted to scale scores. Subtests 4 and 5 norms will be found in table "a" and subtests 6 and 8 in "b" and use "c" for all.
For the fine motor form, one must calculate the total points scored from each subtest and transfer them to the record form. In this form, the correct gender must be used. Using the test manual, scores can be converted to scale scores. scale scores for subtests 1 and 2 will be added, the 3 and 7 will be added. Then one can find the standard scores leading to percentile ranks.
Psychometrics/Standardization (norms, reliability/validity studies)
construct validity has an excellent correlation of p<0.001
internal consistency is excellent at .82-.86
inter-rater/intra-rater reliability is excellent at .98
test-retest reliability is excellent at .76-.83
Strengths & Weaknesses of Assessment
strengths
quick to administer
excellent psychometrics
weaknesses
costly to purchase especially if both kits are needed
