Virtual particles

Virtual particles are quantum fluctuations that exhibit some properties of ordinary particles. Their existence is limmited by the Heisenberg Uncertainty principle. Virtual particles appear in perturbation theory of quantum field theory and they can be undersrtood via Feynman diagrams. 

Virtual particles do not necesarily carry the same mass as their corresponding ordinary particle.
