Uranus is the 7th planet from the Sun. Uranus was the Greek god of the sky. Uranus has the 3rd largest planetary radius and the 4th largest planetary mass in the Solar System. Uranus is similar in composition to Neptune. Both Uranus and Neptune differ from Jupiter and Saturn in their bulk chemical compositions. This is why Uranus and Neptune are classified as "ice giants." This distinguishes them from the other giant planets.
As with the gas giants, the ice giants lack a well defined solid surface. Uranus's atmosphere is similar to that of Jupiter and Saturn in that they contain Hydrogen and Helium. However, the atmosphere of Uranus contains more "ices," such as, water, ammonia and methane and traces of hydrocarbons. Uranus has the coldest planetary atmosphere in the Solar System. The interior of Uranus is thought to be composed of ices and rocks.
Like other giant planets, Uranus has:
A ring system
A magnetosphere
Numerous moons
The Uranian system has a unique configuration as its axis of tilt is sideways. Its north and south poles, thus, exist where other planets have their equators.
