In assigned tutorial group, we are to conduct a Townscape Appraisal as part of the Preliminary Studies to evaluate the visual and aesthetic qualities of a town or urban area. The goal is to identify opportunities for designing responsive architecture that aligns with the urban context and promotes place-making. The Preliminary Studies through the Townscape Appraisal exercise comprises of nine indicators including historical and urban morphology, urban structure, responsive environment, physical evaluation, place, content, landscape character, behavioral survey and S.W.O.T analysis (Micro).
After Analyzing the site, we are to design an urban intervention for the Merdeka 118 precinct that creates a strong landing experience with iconic features and a welcoming layout. Ensure pedestrian-friendly pathways that are walkable, safe, inclusive, and integrated with surrounding activities. Promote greening and sustainability through nature-based solutions, low-maintenance landscaping, and energy-efficient features. Provide clear wayfinding using intuitive visual cues, signage, and technology while adhering to authorities' guidelines for accessibility, safety, and environmental standards.Â
