Lancelot Dobinson 1814-1891
Lancelot Dobinson was born at Percy Main, Northumberland about the year 1814. Although the name Dobinson is localised to the counties of Northumberland, Westmorland and Co Durham, it is particularly concentrated around Tynemouth. An additional complication is that the name Lancelot was popular among the Dobinsons and concentrated in the same area. The 41, 51 and 61 census each records our Lancelot's wife as Sarah, aged 25, 37 and 47 respectively. Note that there is a corresponding convergence of ages for Lancelot, suggesting they were both born in 1814.
The FreeBMD records the death of a Lancelot Dobinson, age 77, at Tynemouth in 1891, which would match our Lancelot.
Lancelot is recorded in the 1841 census for Chirton, Northumberland, in Front Street, with three children in the following household -
Lancelot Dobinson 25, Draper
Mary Dobison 15, Female Servant (FS), note the different name, so Mary is presumably not one of the family
He is recorded in the 1851 census for Chirton, Northumberland, with two more children in Collingwood Street, in the following household -
Lancelot Dobinson 37, Assistant Draper, born in Percy Main
Sarah Dobinson 37, born in Percy Main

John M Dobinson 12, Scholar, born in Howden
Margaret Dobinson 9, Scholar, born in Howden
Sarah Dobinson 6, Scholar, born in Howden
Thomas Dobinson 1, born in North Shields
He is recorded in the 1861 census for Chirton, Northumberland, now in Pit Row and with another child, in the following household -
Lancelot Dobinson 47, Draper, born in Percy Main
Sarah Dobinson 47, born in Percy Main
Elizabeth Dobinson 24, born in Howden
