Ben Patterson 1871

Ben was born at Nook End, Bradfield 18 May 1871 (birth cert from Susan Tracey), the son of Isaac Patterson and Harriet Hawley. He was recorded in the 1881 census as living in a large family (nine siblings!) in Millhouse, Thurlstone. This is a hamlet NW of Sheffield in the Pennines.

Ben married Eleanora Sykes (Susan Tracey). Susan, their great-granddaughter says:

Ben was born in 1871 and married Eleanora Sykes. I have the original church newsheet about their marriage on April 26 but don't know the year as Eleanora doesn't show up in the birth or marriage records nor does their marriage although from the ads on the back and the fact that my grandfather was born and brought up in Thurlstone , near Penistone it was probably there.

The free BMD records the marriage of Ben Patterson with Ellenora (sic) Sykes at Wortley in 1893.

Ben and Eleanora had at least one child, Fred Patterson 1898-?, who was born and brought up in Thurlstone near Penistone.

records the following marriage, which perhaps skips on a generation or two:

On the 16 Dec 1944 at St John the Baptist church, Penistone

records that his father was unknown, while his mother was an unknown Patterson. His names suggest that he was a descendant of Ben Patterson and Eleanora Sykes.
