This genealogical site was made by Brian Patterson.

The earliest antecedents I've been able to trace are great-grandparents of my father George Ernest Patterson. In this generation, something is known of three families -

  • George Patterson, b 1791, and his wife Mary Firth, b 1796. George & Mary were recorded in the 1841 census, when he was a linen weaver at Townend, Clayton, West Yorkshire.

  • Thomas Jackson, b 1795 in Egton, and his wife Mary ? b 1797 in Pickering. Thomas & Mary were recorded in the 1841, 51 & 61 census, when he was a shoemaker and living in the village of Hovingham, N. Yorks.

  • Lancelot Dobinson, b 1814 and his wife Sarah ?, b 1814. Lancelot & Sarah were recorded in the 1841 census, he as a draper, living in Front Street Chirton, North Shields, Northumberland. In the 1851 census they were in Collingwood St Chirton, he as an assistant draper. In the 1861 census they were in Pit Row, Chirton where he was still recorded as a draper.

There is a Byram ancestor but this name is concentrated in Yorkshire & Lancashire, making it difficult to identify ours with any certainty. Two possibilities are William Byram or Job Byram.

The following diagram summarises a plausible descent of George Ernest from his eight great-grandparents.

Richard Mark(e)s Brown 1770 - census 1841, 1851,1861,1871,1881,1891,2001
Richard Marks Brown 1881-1957: census 1881, 1891, 2001, 2011, 2021

Annie Collinson 1895 Census 1921.
