This event was a bit of a show and tell event for the black boat and created quite a lot of interest and questions from fellow boaties who attended in a spectacular range of paddle and row powered vessels. Great to see local classic boat builder Peter Murton and some of his traditional clinkers there, as well as Alec Heslop in his St Ayles rowing and sailing skiff. Flat water enabled us to practice our crew work and rowing technique and we received a number of affirming (unsolicited) compliments about how well the boat looked and even our rowing technique! The row went round a triangular scenic course within the estuary, with a unique landmark of a beached local submarine project that never really got off the skids. the owner still hopes he can complete the ferro cement 'untersee boat' sometime in the future !!! Good luck with that. We took on half a new crew for a "quick belter" of a row down the main channel on the rapidly escalating out going tide, which proved to be "exhillarating' in a number of ways, and gave a new insight on how the boat performed in more challenging fast water, and against the current coming home. Crew #1 for the day was Jocelyn, Russell, Denis, Sue and Madeleine (cox ) with Emma and Roger subbing in for the second row, and Luca as reserve crew on the beach. Thanks to the Loyal Grossi Point boat club and Mapua Boat Club for hosting this unique event.
