Ten weeks off the job was celebrated with our first row taking place when level 2 was announced across the country mid April. the group was itching to get out on the quiet flat open water which had been predominant for the last few weeks - typical of mid Autumn conditions in these here parts. The group has decided we want to row more distanceand some new locations to keep interest up which means we will be travelling further to new locations we havenet tried before. the Monaco to Port row was designed to be our first longer coastal row and we allowed two hours on the high tide to see us right as we launched from Monaco ramp and followed the beach coastline out past the spit and headed for Arrow Rock. Conditions remained calm throughout and we covered the distance slightly more quickly than planned. Its become readily apparent even rowing long distances in Toroa that the boat slips into a optimum hull speed, approx 3 knots where the rowing pressure feels right and the boat performs with minimal effort. the crew is becoming more confident with ever increasiing longer rows thart their old but functional "physogs" can handle more prolonged effort to achieve greater touring distances. We also liked the idea of rowing from a start point to a different finish point thereby avoiding return rows over completed territory. Ita also become apparent that we need to go on tour and seek out intewresting rows further afield as we have pretty well thrashed our loca lrowing venues. Watch this space !
