Odyssey Map Project

Odyssey Project (100 pts.-Major Assessment): Rubric

Odysseus’ List of Adventures & Map of Odysseus' Adventures

*Take a picture of your completed project as soon as you complete it! You will still need to bring in your project, but this will provide a back-up in a worst case scenario (dog eats project, trip with project, etc.)

*Extensions will not be given. This project is posted in advance; plan accordingly.

Odyssey Map Project Planning Sheet

Project Choices: Choose ONE of the options below.

  • Option #1-Make an edible (food products) 3-D map showing 10 different places that Odysseus visited (Ithaca is the only island that can have multiple “scenes”). Some of your items may be nonedible, but make sure the majority of your project is from edible elements. You are NOT graded on how your project tastes (it's okay if we can't eat it). Be creative in making your “islands” and “water.” Include a flag (toothpick and paper with island name) for each island. Islands should display a specific characteristic of that island (Circe’s Island=pigs, Cyclopes’ Island=Polyphemus). Projects will be graded on effort, creativity, and appearance. Do not use materials that will melt (Jello). If you have a busy schedule the night(s) before, I would NOT choose the edible project option.

    • Examples-

      • Water (blue icing, blue marshmallows, etc.)

      • Land (cake, cookie cake, pan of brownies, pan of Rice Krispie Treats, large sugar cookie for each island, cupcake for each island, pancake for each island, etc.)

  • Option #2: Make a 3-D map showing 10 different places that Odysseus visited (Ithaca is the only island that can have multiple “scenes”). Be creative in making your “islands” and “water.” Islands need to be identifiable through some sort of flag. Islands should display a characteristic of that island. Projects will be graded on effort, creativity, and appearance.

    • Examples-

      • Water (shaving cream, shaving gel, colored cloth, blue saran wrap, etc.)

      • Playdoh/clay

      • Legos

  • Option #3: Make a virtual world using a program such as Minecraft that displays 10 scenes/places from The Odyssey. Record a video clip where you show and explain all parts of your created world. Include specific details from the text. Before class begins, you must submit the video (or link) through Google Classroom (under Odyssey Project Assignment). Using any previously created Odyssey worlds/scenes/objects will result in a zero! You MUST create all elements.

  • Option #4 (Group Option): Create a video in which you and your friends act out ten different scenes from the Odyssey. You must include at least one monster/creature scene. Be creative and include special effects. All group members must actively participate in all scenes to receive the project points. Projects will be graded on effort, creativity, and appearance.
