AP Language Essay Conversion Grades

The College Board graders evaluate essays on a scale of 1-9. GHHS' AP Language course will grade essays based on this same general scale. The conversions from points to percentages can be found below. Note: conversion scores become more difficult the second quarter as you should starkly improve your writing and test taking abilities over the course of the semester.

1st Quarter Essay % Conversions 2nd Quarter Essay % Conversions

9 = 100 9 = 100

8 = 97 8 = 94

7 = 93 7 = 90

6 = 89 6 = 86

5 = 84 5 = 81

4 = 77 4 = 75

3 = 70 3 = 60

2 = 65 2 = 55

1 = 60 1 = 50

Our MC tests range in difficulty. The tests will be curved using the following percentages IF at least one student does not score at least a 70% on the test. Otherwise, the highest percentage achieved will be used to set the curve. Students may complete test corrections during tutorials for 1/2 credit on missed questions. You will receive your scantrons back. You will record which numbers need to be corrected. DO NOT write down the letter you chose. You may work in groups (no more than 4 people) during tutorials. The point of tutorials is to understand why the correct answer is correct; it is not to simply share which answer each individual chose and use process of elimination to figure out the correct answer.
