Essential Question: How can I design a LAN or a WAN using multiple network devices?
Mastery Objectives:
SWBAT design a LAN or a WAN using multiple network devices.
SWBAT assign IP addresses correctly using both private and public IP addresses.
SWBAT select appropriate devices for wireless and wired LANs.
SWBAT identify devices and nodes and where they are positioned in a hierarchy.
SWBAT select the appropriate topology for a LAN.
Directions: In groups of two, create a WAN with a LAN where you have the following requirements:
Identify an appropriate topology.
Assign private and public IP addresses to nodes and devices.
Create a wireless LAN.
Create a wired LAN.
Connect multiple LANs using the following devices at least once:
Router
Switch
Bridge
Wireless Router
Modem
Servers:
DNS
DHCP
Printer
Web
One other server of your choice
Select and identify appropriate mediums
Nodes: Desktops, Laptops, and other mobile devices
You need to:
Find images on the Internet
Save them into a google doc or MS Word Document
Print them out
Label the devices
Assign an appropriate IP address to nodes, devices, and servers
Glue the images with the labels and IP addresses to marshmallows
Connect the devices with toothpicks for stability: light green is fiber optic, orange is coaxial cable, teal is twisted pair.
