Essential Question: How does the Internet work?
Mastery Objectives:
SWBAT use technical terminology to describe how the Internet works.
Directions: Create a slide show presentation that defines each vocabulary word below in your own words and displays a picture of something that is not technology related that can be used to compare the vocabulary word. For instance, a picture of a brain could be used to explain how a computer works. Your final slides should be a diagram that help you describe how the Internet works. Write one paragraph describing the diagram. You will be graded on how well you are able to describe how the Internet works. Do not copy and paste because you will lose points.Â
Requirements:
A slide show presentation created in Google Slides or in Microsoft Power Point
1 slide for each vocabulary word with the definition in YOUR OWN WORDS.
1 slide for each vocabulary word with a nontechnical image to describe that vocabulary word.
2-3 slides to describe how the Internet works. You are not allowed to use a diagram from the Internet, all diagrams need to be created by your group.
Vocabulary Words and Definitions:

A number assigned to any item that is connected to the Internet
DNS (Domain Name Service) - Say it with me: D-N-S
The service that translates URLs to IP addresses
URL (Universal Resource Locator) - Say it with me: U-R-L
An easy-to-remember address for calling a web page (like www.code.org)

A group of computers and servers that are connected to each other

Computers that exist only to provide things to others
Fiber Optic Cable - Say it with me: Fye-ber Op-tic Cay-bl
A connection that uses light to transmit information

A wireless method of sending information using radio waves

A method of sending information using telephone or television cables

Small chunks of information that have been carefully formed from larger chunks of information
