The CL: Avalanche badge is valid for 3 years. It is required for any B-E level climb involving snow travel.
B climb or higher leaders are required to take a formal Level-1 Avalanche class or the ICS Avalanche training and receive certification prior to leading climbs.
Recertification credit for avalanche training may be earned by taking refresher courses offered by the Climbing Committee, the Ski Mountaineering Committee, or by serving as an instructor at an avalanche training field session of a Mazama class such as ICS, Ski Mountaineering, or other official sessions. Note that in order to teach at an ICS field session, they need you to attend the lecture for that field session. Climb leaders may also take classes from qualified organizations outside of the Mazamas.
