Luke 6:46-49
The Wise and Foolish Builders
46"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? 47I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."
Jesus is LORD...His disciples called Him LORD...Yet, some, if not all of the disciples did not do what He said and taught...Jesus wants us to not only hear His word, but then He wants us to practice His teachings...If we are faithful to Jesus we should follow His word...He wants us to be obedient to His teachings...He and His word are the truth...
Jesus explains about being wise or being foolish...The wise will not only listen to His teachings, but puts them into practice...The foolish will hear His word, but not practice them...He explains this in His parable...
One thing the parable does tell us, bad times will come...The Father and Son do not promise us a life of all good times even if we believe...Jesus straight up tells us there will be bad times, sufferings, or as in His parable floods...So we must build our faith, like we do our house...We must start with a strong foundation...If we build our foundation on rock it is solid, firm, ready to stand up in troubled weather and times...If we build our house without a foundation or little foundation, or a weak foundation it will stand little wind or weather...We know hard rains will come and high winds will blow...In life troubles will come, many will cause us difficult times...Inside our house, when the hard rains and winds come, the house with the solid foundation will stand firm...Jesus tells us even a flood will not shake it...Like the flood, when our faith is challenged during troubled times it will not be shaken...Sufferings, grief, and loss will come, but our faith, if built on a strong foundation will survive...However, if our house is built with no foundation, the moment the flood comes our house will collapse and its destruction will be complete...The house with no foundation, is like weak faith, once trouble comes your faith will collapse and be destroyed...
We must be prepared to weather these storms in trouble times...We know they are going to come...A strong faith is needed, during these times...We must read the Bible, have a fellowship with others, and put His word into practice, because troubled times will come...For us to be wise we must practice what the Master taught...Then we will have a house that troubles will not shake...The foundation of the Bible, Jesus, and practicing His word is like the foundation built upon rock...
