Jesus Teaches His Disciples to Pray
1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
Would you ask someone how to pray?...If you did, who better to ask than Jesus...
One day one of Jesus' Disciples asked Him, “LORD, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”...And if someone is going to teach you how to pray, what a Teacher to have teach you all about prayer!...The Disciples request shows their growing closeness to Jesus...Asking Someone how to pray is a very personal thing and question...As the Disciples watched and learned more about their Teacher, they knew He often went off to pray...Jesus prayed a lot...And Jesus often prayed in lonely places...Praying in lonely places and being alone, He would spend time with God, His Father...Jesus, by His very nature, knows the very importance of prayer and spending time with God -and our our time should be spent with God, as well as our prayers...Being alone with God was quality time for Jesus...
It is quite possible that when Jesus was praying the Disciples did not hear many of these prayers...So they had this interest and maybe a curiosity of how He would pray, and maybe what did He pray about...They may have wondered about His prayer style...They may have thought, how did Jesus pray and what can we learn from Him about our prayer life...
Sometimes in my prayer life and my prayer time I am too rushed...I sometimes finding myself hurrying through my prayer time...And when I think about this, rushing through prayer and one's time with our Father is not the best of things...I need time with God and not the other way around...We can be certain Jesus did not rush through His time with His Father...He was always doing things God's way and doing God's will...
