Luke 6:37-42
Judging Others
37"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
39He also told them this parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
41"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
Jesus teaches us about the judging of others...He tells us if we do not judge others then we will not be judged...He tells us do not condemn others and we will not be condemned...He then tells us to forgive others and then we will be forgiven...If we give, it will be given to us...If we are loving and forgiving, it will be measured back to us in that same amount...
Jesus is teaching us to expect how we judge, condemn, forgive, give, and are gracious to others is how we will be measured by God...God will be treating us as we have treated others...So we should treat others as we want to be treated...
Jesus asks if a blind man can lead a blind man...He tells us that students are not above their teachers, and when we are trained we are like the teachers and people who have taught us...If we follow those who cannot see the light we must be careful...We should choose our mentors wisely...We often turn out like our teachers, so must be aware of this...
What we read, follow, and do everyday becomes a part of us, so we must be aware of this...We must be aware of how TV, movies, the news, and music influences us...Jesus wants us to use our minds but what we do everyday, day in and day out can mold us...Who we are should be influenced by the Father and the Son and they must be a priority in our lives because that is what is important...
It is so easy to look at others and see something that is different or we disagree with and criticize them...While doing this we should be sure to realize that we can easily be criticized for our faults...We must take a look at how we live, before telling others how to live, or criticizing them...
If Jesus is our Mentor, and we His student, we will show the love and mercy He teaches...These are hard teachings, because each of us are different and we usually have an opinion of others, regardless...But if we follow His teachings we know the greatness of love and mercy toward others...
Treat others as you want to be treated...So we should be slow to judge, slow to criticize, but quick to forgive, give, and be gracious to others...Have mercy on others and show mercy towards them and God will do the same for us...
