Luke 6:12-16
Jesus Calls the Twelve Disciples
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
St. Luke tells us that Jesus chose His Twelve disciples...They were chosen in the morning...Jesus chose a diverse group of Disciples...
Before Jesus chose the Twelve, He went to the mountainside... It was a solitary place...A place where He could think clearly... The mountains are associated with other important moments in Jesus' ministry...
On the mountain, He spent all night praying...He knew the importance of His decision...He would spend the night before announcing His choosing of the Twelve, on the mountain, praying the whole night...When we have important decisions to make we need to go to a solitary place and pray long and hard to God for His will to be done...
