Cannons are a war machine which are effective at precisely dealing lethal damage to players and NPCs at pretty much any range.
They are very effective as defensive installations, especially since they can be precisely aimed and have no random deviation from their target.
Using them out in the open, perhaps to attack in a siege or during a battle, is difficult but possible if you are very experienced with cannons. You'll have to aim and adjust your aim while potentially being attacked by your enemies.
Cannon spawners can be bought from the lobby shop for LOTR Mod coins.
Cannonballs, which are needed as ammunition, can be crafted with 4 Iron Ingots and 1 Gunpowder as shown in the screenshot below.
Cannons can also be obtained by mining any block of a spawned cannon.
Cannonball Crafting Recipe
Right-click the ground with a spawner. Make sure you are facing in the direction you want the cannon to face.
There must be a completely level and clear 8 long and 3 wide space, with at least 2 blocks of clearance in height.
If there are any obstructions (including some plants), the cannon won't spawn.
To load the cannon, right-click the trapdoor on the end of the barrel with a cannonball. Do not sneak.
This will move the barrel forward - this shows the cannon is loaded.
To fire the cannon, right-click the stone button at the back of the cannon's barrel while holding any torch. This will initiate a 5-second fuse, after which the cannon will fire and can be reloaded again.
You can aim a cannon by adjusting two angles:
L-R Angle: this is between -45 and 45. You can set it to any angle within that range.
To fire straight, set it to 0.
To fire 45 degrees to the left, set it to -45.
To fire 45 degrees to the right, set it to 45.
Elevation Angle: this is between -45 and 45. You can set it to any angle within that range.
To fire straight, set it to 0.
To fire 45 degrees upwards, set it to 45.
To fire 45 degrees downwards, set it to -45.
To adjust these, left-click their signs (which are at the back of the cannon) to decrease them, or right-click to increase.
A cannonball is lethal to any player, mob or NPC in its path until it hits a block.
Upon hitting a block (e.g. the ground), there will be a sound and particle effect.
No explosive damage is dealt to blocks.
Cannons can be destroyed in four ways:
Explosion damage.
Being hit by another cannon.
If any block which makes up the cannon is mined, it drops as an item.
Cannons have a durability of 64 shots, and self-destruct after that.
