Our trip to Salt Lake City.
On Wednesday morning, April 5, we started our trip and went first to Ogden, where we greeted several of our old friends! The weather was perfect, so to speak, and we felt to rejoice and be glad in the glorious Spring. One can't help but go out at the onset of Spring.
After taking care of our business, we took a look at the city, whose growth is evident everywhere. It is said that it now has about 35,000 inhabitants. Judging by the number of employees, it is estimated to have at least 60,000 inhabitants. - Our time was limited, so we set out in the evening for Salt Lake City, where, because of the conference, it was exceptionally busy when we arrived.
Thursday was the first day of the conference, and of course we were not going to miss it, because the slanderous attacks by the anti-Mormon press made the 75th annual conference of the Church a special attraction for all believers. The first, as well as all other sessions, were always filled to capacity, which was especially remarkable for the first two days of the conference. On the first day, the 6th of April ( Founding of the Church), the names of the leaders were put to the vote and - listen and be amazed - in the great crowd of 10,000, only 1 hand was raised to vote against. It was the clearest proof that all the people are of one heart and mind with its leaders, and who can suppress such a united people! It is a power in the country, not by force, but by love and forbearance.
On Sunday morning, afternoon and evening there was no place to get into the Tabernacle, but especially in the afternoon, when at least 16 thousand people were present in the Tabernacle. 4000 in the Assembly Hall and another crowd numbering in the thousands held a meeting in the open air on the lawn in the Temple Block. One could not help but be enraptured by the impression of unity and love all the way to heaven, and even strangers were carried away with this spirit. The Spirit of God was present not only in invisible but also in visible form. All were moved by it and could feel His presence.
The German conference was held on Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock in Barrett Hall. About 600 German Saints had gathered for it. It is impossible to describe the joy and emotion of shaking hands with old friends and faithful brothers and sisters; it must be experienced.
To return to our personal business, everywhere we went in the interest of the "Post", we were shown the greatest courtesy and all had only words of praise and satisfaction for the same. We received 35 new subscribers, most of whom subscribed of their own free will, without us asking for their subscription, and the latter fact is a great satisfaction to us.
Although we still wanted to go to Provo, Park City, and Willard, the time was too short to do so. However, we intend to make a 2-3 week trip in July and will then visit places mentioned; the newspaperman's family will then go to Little Cottenwood for rest, if God keeps everyone healthy.
We returned home in good health on Monday evening after being spiritually strengthened and refreshed by the best and most glorious conference of the church, and also having financial success.
