Joshua Tree
The Joshua tree is one of the most well-known plants in the desert.
It is also known as the Yucca palm because the Yucca moth is
the only insect able to pollinate its flowers.
In fact, one cannot survive without the other.
Like the cactus, the Joshua tree has a complex root system.
Its deeper roots can reach a depth of up to thirty feet while its shallow roots
absorb water after a rainfall.
The Native Americans found this desert tree particularly useful
for making bowls and other containers used for nuts and berries.
The Joshua tree symbolizes how it is possible to live within your means
while still being a valuable resource for others.
‘Bloom where you are planted’ means making the most of where you are.
It also means having a positive impact on the people, places, and things around you. (S. Finelli)
