Gila Monster

Weighing over five pounds and at a length of up to two feet, 

the Gila monster is the largest native lizard in the American deserts.  

This creature was given its name after being discovered from the Gila River basin in Arizona.

  The Gila monster is a sluggish creature that spends most of its life underground. 

 In its enormous tail, it stores fat that allows it to go several months between meals. 

 When it does feed, it does so on eggs and newborn mammals.  

The Gila’s venom is poisonous; enough to disrupt the nervous system of its victim.  

When a Gila bites, the neurotoxins are transmitted into the wound.  

Fortunately, this attack, while agonizing, does not result in human death.  

When looking to the Gila monster for meaning, you’ll find the message of self-preservation.  

It is ok to keep others at bay until you know they can be trusted.  

It is also acceptable to exude confidence enough so that you won’t be taken advantage of.
